We wrote last week that Acer is trying to speed up the launch of its Ultrabook to compete with ASUS. by the looks of it the two will be very close to launch and the only two with Ultrabooks to begin with. Acer is the first to be listed, by an Italian store with the name Ultrabook S3.

Acer Aspire 3951 will be its first Ultrabook, and most likely the only one on offer for some time. ASUS is also expected to launch at least two models at 11.6″ and 13.3″ called UX21 and UX31. other companies are keeping a distance to see what the market reception will be like for the new products that remind us a lot of the popular Apple MacBook Air at 11.6″ and 13.3″.

Acer’s Ultrabook is the first to belisted, which means they may beat ASUS to the market. Aspire 3951 has had a name change though, to Ultrabook S3 and sports pretty interesting specifications considering the thin profile of only 13 mm.

The processor is an Intel Core i5-2467 dual-core CPU at 1.6 GHz, with Hyper-Threading and 2.3 GHz Turbo Mode. The integrated graphics processor HD 3000 operates at meager 350 MHz, but has an aggressive Turbo mode at 1.15 GHz. For storage there is a 320 GB harddrive and 20GB SSD, most likely connected through Intel’s Smart Response technology.

The first listing is €786,19, which matches Acer’s previous predictions. If this is correct it is a model to look forward to since the SSD cache technology from Intel works well and can give you the advantages of both worlds.
