VIA has many years of experience of designing power efficient and, at the same time, small computers with its own processors. One of its latest additions to the PC market is a complete computer that has been designed with the huge LCD market we have today in mind. VIA vmpc vm7700 namely uses the standardized VESA interface to hang on the back of compatible monitors. The case can be attached to the rear of any VESA-compatible monitor and can thus be hidden completely. A rather interesting design for saving space on the desk.
Inside the case of vm7700 there is a processor with a passive cooler, either a 1.0 GHz C7 model or a 1.5 GHz Eden ULV processor. Paired with a VIA CX700M2 media processor it becomes a complete system with a total power consumption of a mere 12 W (!).
VIA is first of all targeting the business sector with the new system, but there will certainly be interest in the retail channel too. Convenient and power efficient systems are always sought-after.
