Turion 64 X2 is a very important proecssor to AMD especially as it is the first model with dual processor cores for the mobile market. Intel has for a few months been able to brag about having the only dual-core architecture for the mobile market with its Core Duo. AMD has now finally launched its equivalent in the form of Turion 64 X2. Just as with the single core version, Turion 64, it is in many aspects just a power optimized Athlon 64 processor. With Turion 64 X2 it is of course an Athlon 64 X2 processor which makes out the foundation, but just as the coming Socket AM2 processors Turion 64 X2 has support for the newer memory technology DDR2-SDRAM. As earlier information revealed it is Socket S1 that will be the mobile equivalent for Socket AM2.

Turion 64 X2 is the first mobile processor family with dual cores and 64-bit technology, Intel will not release its first mobile 64-bit processor until the third quarter when Merom is suppose to arrive, Core 2 Duo, which is based on the new Core architecture.

As we have earlier reported the first Turion 64 X2 systems are expected to arrive sometime next month and the four different processor models AMD has launched are as follows;

AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-60  – $354
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-56  – $263
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-52  – $220
AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-50  – $184
– Prices are for orders of >1000 units

Already tests with Turion 64 X2 have been posted at the Belgian site Matbe.com where they compare a 2.0GHz Turion 64 X2 (TL-60) with a 2.0GHz Core Duo (T2500) and AMD’s new creation really have to struggle to keep up, but we are still awaiting more thorough tests.
