Lenovo Thinkpad X1 Carbon got a lot of attention when it was announced, but with a price of $1400 it was not the cheapest notebooks. Thinkpad T430u is a new ultrabook that shares the design with X1, but at a much lower price.

Lenovo Thinkpad T430u is an ultrabook targeting small and mid-size businesses, and was shown at CES back in January. The compauter ships with a third generation Core i processor (Ivy Bridge) with 17 watt TDP, 8 to 16 GB RAM and dedicated Geforce GT 620M GPU. The screen at 14″ has the modest 1366 x 768 pixel resolution. At stock the computer has a 1 TB harddrive, but there is SSD as an option.

Thinkpad T430u follows the same design pattern as the flagship X1 Carbon, if we neglect the thickness. There is no mention of exactly how thick and how much it weighs in the press release. Since it is graded an ultrabook, T430u will be thicker than 21 millimeter though.

Prices are a bit more appealing with T430u that starts at $779, which is near half the price of X1 Carbon. Lenovo T430u will be in stores in the middle of September, while its more expensive sibling will be available any day now.
