Most ultrabooks have 13″ screens, but there are odd models at 11.6″ and 14″. Asus latest U500VZ is an oddity though with a 15.6″ IPS panel and 1920 x 1080 resolution, quad-core processor, dedicated graphics and room for two harddrives.

Zenbook U500VZ measures 19.7 millimeter at the thickest point, but still brings impressive specifications. The 15.6″ screen follows in the same foot steps as UX21A, UX31A and UX32VD with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and IPS panels. The processor is a quad-core Core i7 Ivy Bridge processor, while the discrete graphics card is a Nvidia Geforce GT 650M, which is fully capable of powering most games on the market at stock resolution.

The computer has room for two storage devices and there are two different configurations; one with 128 GB SSD and 500 GB mechanical drive or two SSD, which result in 512 GB space in total. it is unclear if we are dealing with two 2.5″ slots or one 2.5″ plus one mSATA. U500VZ follows the same design as other Zenbooks and gets a backlit keyboard. There is also a numpad, thanks to the larger format.

It does not say what kind of connectivity it has, but can spot two USB 3.0, one HDMI, one Ethernet and one 3.5 mm port. There are many question marks that need straightening out, like the weight and more detailed specifications, but also price and availability. This should become available near the availability date though, whenever that is.
