Asus has announced its latest ”tablets” Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT, which are powered by an x86 Atom processor or ARM processor. Both have a dockable keyboard with integrated battery and the Atom model gets a Wacom stylus digitizer.

Asus has now presented its coming tablets with Windows 8 and RT, which follow the Transformer concept that has been around for some time with Google’s Android operating system. The tablets have a different name though, to separate them from the Transformer series; Vivo Tab.

The first Vivo Tab ships with Windows 8 based on Intel’s Clover Trail platform at 32 nm with a SoC design with all logi on the same silicon. The processor is paired with 2 GB RAM and 64 GB eMMC storage.

The tablet has a 11.6″ IPS screen that Asus calls ”Super IPS+” with 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and the capacitive screen gets help from a Wacom stylus. On the back there is a 8 MP camera and on the fron twe find a 2 MP camera for video calls. Vivo Tab weighs 675 grams and is only 8.7 mm thick. The tablet also supports NFC.

Vivo Tab RT has, as the name implies, Windows RT installed and builds on Nvidia’s Tegra 3 processor with four Cortex-A9 cores. It also has 2 GB RAM, but has to settle for 32 GB eMMC storage.

This tablet is somewhat smaller at 10″, but like Vivo Tab it has a IPS panel with 1366 x 768 resolution. As for cameras and NFC they are the same with Vivo Tab RT, as with Vivo Tab. Thanks to the smaller screen it weighs only 520 grams (!) and is only 8.3 mm thick.

Both Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT will be available with bundled keyboards that works as a docking station. The keyboard has integrated batteries for longer battery times. The keyboard for Vivo Tab has two USB 2.0 ports, while the keyboard for Vivo Tab RT settles for only one USB 2.0. Price and availability for the two models are still unknown, but should become available on October 26th when Windows 8 and Windows RT launches.
