Small preview imageYonah is the name of Intel’s next version of Pentium M which will be launched at the beginning of next year. The big news with Yonah is that we will for for the first time see a Pentium M processor with dual cores. In other words, the dual core technology enters the mobile market for real. Except for dual cores Yonah has been made with the new 65nm technology which Intel will introduce more seriously during 2006. As today’s Pentium M (Dothan) doesn’t support SSE3 Yonah will, plus some other technologies improving the performance even further. Yonah is a very interesting processor as it in many ways are similar to the architecture Intel will introduce during 2006, as it will use the best parts of Pentium M and the NetBurst architectures.

At Anandtech they have a couple of weeks before the official launch of Yonah already published a performance article that will give you a hint of what to expect from Intel’s coming processors.

”The implications for mobile performance are huge, as multitasking on notebooks has rarely been all that great of an experience. At the same time, Yonah is so much more than just a dual core mobile processor – it’s a predictor of the performance of Intel’s next-generation desktop micro-architecture.”
