Small preview imageNVIDIA GoForce 5500 is the latest graphics chipset from NVIDIA, but it certainly isn’t like any other. GoForce 5500 is meant for the handheld market, cellphones to be precise, cellphones with demands for graphic performance. The new graphics chipset should be able to handle pretty much everything in graphics including playback of H.264, WMV9 and MPEG4 in resolutions up to 720×576 pixels. GoForce 5500 is also compatible with digital TV-broadcasts for cellphones as DVB-H and also handles digital cameras up to 10 megapixel. Even more interesting is maybe the fact that NVIDIA announces that they during the cellphone fair 3GSM will show the games Quake and Need for Speed for GoForce 5500-based cellphones.

”Big games developers will during 3GSM for the first time ever show games in real 3D for cellphones. With new technologies as NVIDIA’s new graphics chipset GoForce 5500 there’s suddenly very much more to do with cellphones than earlier possible.

Among others, Electronic Arts will demonstrate the mobile version of their popular racing-game Need for Speed Most Wanted and also the classic Quake III Arena will make its GoForce debut during 3GSM.”
