Jon Johansen, mostly known for cracking the DeCSS-encruption which the DVD-format uses, has been at it again. This time its the encryption for streamed video which has been the target. It is namely so that you can’t use multicast unlesss you use Windows Media Player and its support for the encryption that the NSC-files uses. Jon’s tool will remove the encryption will make it possible for open source-programs such as VLC to be able to handle multicast. Microsoft has commented on the issue but says that as the program only remove the encryption and not reveal the content the integrity remains intact.
