Sony BMG hasn’t just managed to become enemies with more or less the entire online community by the use of rootkits with copy protected CDs, but also to be sued all over the place. A lot of the criticism has come from how it has handled the situation when the first information about the rootkits appeared, since Sony just referred to this as something unimportant. Later on it appeared that the same rootkit can be used by hackers and virus to harm the computer. The latest addition to all of this is that a Finnish antivirus company has posted information which states that it warned Sony for the problems with the rootkit already on October 4, a month before everything unraveled. Sony didn’t do anything about the rootkit despite F-Secure’s warning and this will most likely not help Sony BMG in future discussions about its rootkit.
